I did not really like the start of this because I feel like telling the reader the things you will and will not do during a story is pointless and putting yourself into a fiction story is pointless also...?

I think my difficulties with this lie with in the fact that I cant really tell if the author is also the speaker of the story. 

I do however, enjoy the description of this colony, and the beauty of it even though the underlying meaning isn't, 

I think it is kind of messed up how Oroonko's 100 year old Grandfather stole his girl lol. It isnt something that really seems okay to me, considering the fact that he is 100 years old, and she just went along with it? Eventually they find their way back to eachother though and that really brings it home for me.

I think what surprises me the most about this story is the fact that i kind of expeceted it to be some sort of fairy tale, but the ideals of slavery and such are very realistic.  (I guess the names are what made me believe that it would be some sort of fairy tale) 

Supernatural

Okay.. so, what? I understand the first few lines of this poem, where it is talking about eve eating the forbidden fruit and that being the fall of mankind (which it is the fall of mankind in most religions.) I understand where it says that this is what brought death into this world, it brought sin, hate, all negative things into the world... and I understand the part where it says Jesus is to restore the world, (because he does when he comes back to life.) This is something that you would have to have strong biblical knowledge to understand. This is not resonating with me...whatsoever.

From what I can understand... and without any prior knowledge I feel like I wouldnt understand this at all.. it seems to go from the fall of man, to the fall of satan... but satans fall eventually led to the fall of mankind. Its one in the same. Satan fell from heaven due to his own actions but blamed everything on God, His refusal to bow down, and his desire for power... his own selfishness put him in hell. "Against the throne and monarchy of God,/ Raised impious war in Heav'n and battle proud," (why is heaven spelled like that?) shows this fight that Satan had with God. He went against him knowing God had the power to cast him out of heaven.

I dont know if anyone else watches the show Supernatural... but remember when all the Angels fell from heaven to Earth? Thats the picture I get in my head when I read this.

Except it wasnt Angels falling from heaven, it was Satan and it was within good reason, and he wasnt coming to Earth, but Hell.

This, from what I can tell is an elaborate way of explaining what the bible already tells us, with what seems to be much exageration,

three witches

I think I am going to focus on these witches, because they are literally the reason this book even became a thing. How on earth do three random and creepy women telling you that you are going to be the "Thane of Cawdor," entice you to go and kill the current one. 

Rational thoughts make me think maybe you should just wait till he dies on his own, maybe it was going to be soon even if they didnt want him murdered. I dont really think that killing the king was  neccessary for the prophecy to come true, I think it would just make it happen faster and that isnt needed! It is so crazy and irrational. 

But I have never known Shakespeare to write something rational, so there is no surprise there. All I know is, they took a prophecy serious from three women and it lead to murder just to climb to the top. It seems as if people just arent happy with one thing but they want everything. It is directly related to society today! People are selfish and greedy and will do anything even if it lacks morality to get to the top.

Even Lady Macbeth thinks that this murder has to happen, she even thinks he lacks the power to kill Duncan, and it blows my mind that she is siding with this. Women are usually the smart ones! 

First I would just like to say that the Wife of Bath was not what I expected her to be before reading this. For some reason I genuinely felt like she was going to be this wholesome church going woman. While she does go to church it isnt really for the right reasons. She goes to show "what a good person she is" even though she really isnt all that great. She makes cloth to give to the church, but if somebody one ups her she gets mad. 

I also expected her to be very modest when it came to the things she wore. While the clothes themselves may have been modest in the way that they kept her covered they were very flamboyant and colorful. She wore a lot in an attempt to show her wealth but she ended up looking pretty foolish. She wore a hat as big as a shield and bright red tights. 

I was also surprised to see that she has had five husbands, like honestly who even has time for that? 

Grendel vs. fire breathing dragons

Beowulf really should have listened when he was told to not let his little bit of success get to his head. He also should have picked different men to back him up. I dont know about anyone else, but the way they just left him to die was NOT okay in my eyes. These men are supposed to be men of valor, men of strength and courage, not men who run away when times get hard. “his comrades, hand-chosen, sons of noblemen, did not take their stand in a troop around him with warlike valor—they fled to the woods and saved their lives,” (2596-2599).

Of course while I don’t blame them, because I would probably do the same thing, I’m not sure why Beowulf didn’t “Hand choose” these men much better.

What makes it even funnier in a way, to me that is, is while Beowulf’s life had just ended the men came to see him, the men who left him when he needed them. “those ten weak traitors all together/ who had not dared to hoist their spears/ when their lord of men needed them most:/ now shamefaced, they carried their shields…” (2847-2852). they knew that instead of sticking around and dying for meaning they are now looked down upon… Wiglaf tells them “Death is better/for any earl than a life of dishonor!” (2890-2891.) Wiglaf would have stuck around. 

I cant be entirely upset about Beowulfs death just because he did it to himself. Really, only Beowulf can be mad and Beowuld for getting himself in to something he shouldn’t have in an effort to prove himself to be this great soldier. He thought because he killed Grendel he could kill fire breathing dragons… and that is just foolish to me. There is absolutely no comparison in my eyes. Beowulf says himself he can handle this has he did Grendel and his mother, with no idea that they were not the same. I mean I guess they both look pretty scary...

But the dragon still takes the cake. 

Always will. No enemies are the same, and Beowulf should have taken the advice he received and maybe he would still be alive, maybe if he took the time to learn his enemies he would have defeated them. I dont know, I guess the adrenaline was cruising through his veins. Beowulf died a very Courageous death, and I feel like thats all he would have wanted anyways, another reason why I cant be too upset over his death. He died stupidly, but with much valor
